The inspiration for this flag design is two New Zealand flora icons, the Koru and the Pohutukawa. The two toned Koru combination symbolising the long white cloud over the green of the land.
The unity and heart shapes formed by the linked Korus can symbolise various things, one being our love and enjoyment of our unique nature and beautiful landscape.
I was trying variations on the Southern Cross stars and upon putting more spokes noticed the resemblance to the Pohutukawa blossom so utilised this in the design. Each star is made up of 16 spokes ending in 16 yellow pollen dots representing the 16 regions of NZ.
