I have done blue at the top of my flag because it's on the current flag and because it's a shade of black from the Māori flag. I have also done blue because it represents the skies and waters surrounding New Zealand to show that we're an island. At the bottom I have done red because it symbolises Mana in Māori culture and because it's also on the Māori flag. I have kept the southern cross to also show where our country is because you can only see these stars in the South Pacific and I have used a Union Jack from the Internet that someone designed made out of Māori patterns to combined the cultures. Credit for the koru goes to Marsden, Smith and Munn, and to Mike Davison for the Union Jack.
