Design shows the Kuaka(godwit) portraying strength,stamina,leadership, global connection between Northern and Southern Hemisphere and journeys. The wings represent the unique sail designs and our maritime history. The white wing sail representing European/other culture and the red wing sail for Maori/Polynesia. The white represents peace, understanding, and enlightenment. It also represents the wake of vessels coming together from different origins towards a common destination or purpose. The sotherncross connect to the current flag with blue of the Pacific. The Black represents the sea of the future as the two vessels travel over it together.
