The fern is a modified Sanders fern. the white above signifies New Zealand as the land of the long white cloud, and the white on the bottom half of the fern is to symbolise the silver fern, which is a symbol of New Zealand. the red top half of the fern next to the white background takes inspiration from the Rangatiratanga flag. the blue underneath the fern completes the design by finishing the colour scheme that is the same as the Union Jack and New Zealand's current flag.
