The red represents the first and second war that New Zealand helped the British people and we need remember that because it's history and it makes a big part of us now.
The white represents the long white cloud that covers us because we are called the land of the long white cloud also because we are a peaceful country.
The fern is to represent the sport and nature in New Zealand like the All Blacks, plants and kiwis.
The southern cross is too represent the four big islands in New Zealand North Island the South Island and Stewart Island and the Chatham Islands as well as guide for the people who first came to New Zealand so it will guide us now as a nation. Credit for the fern design goes to Dave Clark.
