NZ needs a flag that celebrates independence with a distinctive redesign. Black & white are considered national colours, and speak of union and balance between cultures. Black suggests strength and sophistication of a mature nation. White reflects that hope. This contrast creates a simple yet elegant union. A bold departure from conventional colour that marks us as a proudly secure multicultural nature. The central graphic draws the eye in and suggests multiple walks of life converging under the Southern Cross. The asymmetry reaches out and upwards indicating the thrust of a nation with the drive to innovate/move onward from its origins. The diagonal line running through the design bridges the north and the south, as two parts of one whole.
