These designs are based on kowhaiwhai painting forms. I have adapted the koiri pattern which means "to move to and fro like the wind", and symbolises the breath of life. I have kept the Southern Cross to reflect the importance of links and respect to the past as well as acknowledging our unique position on the planet.
The colours I have used have been influenced by the Kereru, our native forest pigeon and in a wider sense, they represent our love of the natural elements that are abundant in our land.
The colour combinations and koiri pattern are flexible and can be further explored to create the right balance and impact.
