Identical to Kris Sowersby’s “Wharenui” submissions, this version is a variation in black & white.
Black is our traditional colour, making the design unique and distinguishable from other flags. White represents ‘the land of the long white cloud’, our location.
The use of the four triangles can represent the main stars of the Southern Cross (Māhutonga), the appearance of a Wharenui, Maori or Pacific patterns, a fern or even an arrowhead.
Like many abstract designs, it will represent different things to different people.
