Left: This is the red stripe which represents the Europeans of New Zealand. One of the two main communities in New Zealand and the importance the community contributes to New Zealand society.
Centre: This is a white stripe which represents the long white cloud or Aotearoa in Maori. It also represents the peace of the two communities, the Europeans and the Maori's living side by side peacefully. The centre also contains the coat of arms of New Zealand. A symbol that represents both ethnic communities, the history of New Zealand and the relationship to the Commonwealth.
Right: This is the black stripe, this represents the Maori community in New Zealand and their importance to New Zealand Society.
