Essentially a tricolour, reshaped. The black represents the clear night sky and has a historical connection with New Zealand. The Southern Cross has been guiding both Maori and European voyagers for centuries, and is an abiding symbol of our nation. The blue represents the ocean, the sky and ties us to our history. The white sash represents many things; Aotearoa - The Long White Cloud, the shape of the silver fern, the coastline, a wave, the snow on the mountains, our rivers or the wing of a bird in flight. It even slightly resembles the shape of the country. And it points forwards and upwards, like a road to the future.
This version is a slightly different shape from my other Navigator flag. I couldn't decide which was better, so thought I'd leave it open.
