My design for the New Zealand flag showcases
the nature side of New Zealand to show
that we are a clean green country. The two
islands symbolize the mountains and the waves
as they clash together in the middle. The
indents create texture as they show different
images with the positive and negative space.
On one side it defines the shape of a fern
while on the other it creates waves. The
overall shape of my design has a wave like
directional flow as it curves from the bottom
to the top. I kept the scale of the two shapes
the same to show equality between
different ethnicities in New Zealand.
I decided to keep the colours simple by using
a monochromatic colour scheme by only
using green. This backs up the idea that we
are a clean green country. The white contrasts
against the green defining the shape
and putting more emphasis towards this
area. I have used light tones with the white
and a light and vibrant green which creates a
bright and positive feel to the flag.
