They colours stripes include all the colours union jack, current New Zealand and Maori flag. These also represent the sky and sea (peace), peace (white), the earth/soil (brown) and blood (red), both in blood that has been spilled for the forming and protecting our country and the idea of the vigour New Zealand today. Yellow is also present to represent wealth, physical wealth, cultural wealth and spiritual wealth. Also yellow and red are important colours in Asian tradition so it was important to include representation of this cultural contribution to New Zealand. These colours a frame by smaller black stripes. Black a the colour used our national teams and identifiable as a national colour. And of course a southern cross was needed for good measure.
