A Fresh Concept for our New Zealand Flag.
The red, white and blue concept of our present flag has been discarded in favour of the natural blues and greens of New Zealand and our surrounding oceans and seas.
From the left (flagpole) side, the following design is offered:
1. The Blue of the smaller Tasman Sea, representing the waters guarding the West
2. The Green of our country, with its lush pastures, flora and pure lake waters.
3. The White of the Silver Fern, designed by Kyle Lockwood, representing our snow covered mountains, the waves on our shores, and the natural colours of the Southern Cross. White also is purity and strength for Aotearoa, Land of the Long White Cloud.
4. The right hand Blue, representing the mighty Pacific Ocean, while high above, in the heavens, is the Southern Cross, guiding our sailors and travelers to and from New Zealand. Those same stars represent the four Islands of New Zealand: North Island, South Island, Stewart Island and the Chathams.
