Black - a colour I think all New Zealanders relate to.
Blue - the ocean, taken here from the existing ensign.
Green - apart from the traditional red, white, blue and black of many of the designs, green also appears very popular, representing the land and our clean-green image.
White - many existing designs reference the long-white-cloud that I have repeated here. Also incorporates the Koru. My inspiration here was the design of Tino Rangatiratanga, although I used the modern Koru of Gordon Walters.
Stars - the red stars of the Southern Cross remain giving continuity and representing navigation and the strong pull many of us feel towards New Zealand's shores.
